Despite the Ministry of Health and Customs Department not having proper screening machines to detect visitors with the Influenza A H1N1 virus entering our ports, the Ministry of Health is adamant they can still control an outbreak in Fiji.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday at the announcement of a confirmed H1N1 case in Fiji, Permanent Secretary for Health Dr Sala Saketa stressed they will continue with the normal procedures.
Meanwhile, Dr Saketa has called on the public to exercise extra precautions in avoiding the spread of the virus by washing your hands properly, covering you mouth when you sneeze or cough and report to medical authorities if you think you have a symptom of the virus, that is a flu like symptoms and constant sneezing.
So far only 1 case of the H1N1 virus is reported in Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Samoa.
