The Health Ministry continues to monitor a number of suspected dengue cases in Health Centers and Hospitals in the Central/Eastern and Western Division.

It has been confirmed that an average of ten cases are seen by doctors daily in the Central Division.

Fiji has nine confirmed cases of dengue fever mostly in the Central division.

Symptoms of dengue fever are headaches, joint pains, vomiting, fever and weakness.

It is spread by mosquitoes and people have been advised to destroy all mosquito breeding places in their compounds.

Meanwhile, the meeting between the Suva City Council and the Health Ministry on a spraying campaign to fight against the dengue fever outbreak is currently underway.

Dengue outbreaks have occurred in neighbouring Pacific island nations including New Caledonia in February, Tonga in March, Kiribati in June and the Cook Islands in June.
