The Ministry of Forestry hopes to clear the air with the Fiji Saw millers Association on its decision to increase the timber royalties which has prompted the association to contemplate legal action.
Interim Minister Joketani Cokanasiga said he has directed his Senior Officials to meet with the stakeholders and iron out the problems, while also stating that the huge percentage claims would not automatically result in massive price increases.
Saw millers Association President Jay Dayal earlier revealed that the timber royalties have been increased between 56% to a massive 270% without consultations and they will take legal action against the Native Lands Trust Board and the Ministry if the decision is not revoked.
