The Fisheries Ministry is still confused over the killing of over 80 turtles in Macuata, during the Methodist Church Conference last week.
Interim Fisheries Minister, Joketani Cokanasiga said it is still unclear whether the law caters for the killing of turtles in large numbers for traditional purposes.
He said this is a very sensitive issue and his ministry is dealing with it carefully.
About 84 turtles were killed for the guests of the Church Conference, however, permission to kill only four turtles were sought from the Ministry of Fisheries.
Meanwhile, under the Endangered Species Act one found guilty of this offence, can be fined over $20,000 or face five years imprisonment.
