The Social Welfare Ministry has welcomed the poverty report released by University of the South Pacific academic Dr Wadan Narsey on Monday.
Director Ilisapeci Rokotunidau told Fijivillage that the ministry is currently assisting over 25,000 people around the country and majority of them are from the Central and Northern Division.
She said more people will be assisted later in the year.
The Northern Division is said to be the worst off with 53% of the people living below the poverty line.
