The Dean of the Fiji School of Medicine said they were surprised this morning by the Interim Health Minister, Dr Jona Senilagakali' statement as they have had no discussions with the Interim Minister.
Senilagakali told Village news that 4 million in tax dollars is poured into the FSM yearly and is concerned that when the students graduate, they migrate overseas.
Speaking to Village News, FSM Dean, Professor David Brewster said it is unfair that the Interim Minister implied that the migration of FSM graduates was the School's responsibility.
Brewster adds that students have a bonded obligation, through their scholarship providers, to remain in the region which is the responsibility of the donor to enforce.
Doctor Senilagakali said the government forks out millions of dollars a year for FSM however many medical students just leave after finishing off.
Due to this, Doctor Senilagakali confirms that the interim administration will also support the new medical school at University of Fiji which would see FSM losing out on the arranged attachments of medical students at the Lautoka Hospital.
