Communications Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has raised concern how the television rights for the 2014 World Cup Soccer tournament has been given to a company based in Papua New Guinea which does not even have a TV station.
Sayed-Khaiyum said he knows that the TV stations in Fiji are now being approached to buy the rights from the company called Click Pacific.
He said in these types of incidents all the three TV stations should put a joint bid and not compete against each other for bids in a price war.
Fijivillage has established that the TV rights for World Cup Soccer have been purchased by Mai TV.
Managing Director of Click Pacific and former Mai TV CEO, Richard Broadbridge said they have been operating in PNG since February this year.
Broadbridge said Click Pacific was awarded a national TV license in PNG in May and is working towards launching in the first quarter of 2014.
He said the company also acquires content and sells them to interested broadcasters.
