The interim Local Government Minister said he is disappointed at the misrepresentation of his comments on the expiry of the municipal council's term of office on 31st January next year.

He said the decision to dissolve the Municipal Councils was not based on the recommendations by the Review committee.

Bole said that the interim government's decision to maintain the three year term for councils was based on consideration of numerous serious complaints by people against municipal councils in the interest of ratepayers and others.

He added that the decision was made this year in July and the report of the Review and Reform Committee on the Municipal Council's will be submitted to the interim government for consideration before it is released to the public.

Bole said that a meeting between the mayors and the acting interim Minister for Local Government will be held in the New Year however, a date is yet to be confirmed.

The Local Government Association called for a meeting with Bole after receiving a letter from the Local Government Ministry about dissolving all municipal council's on January 31st which the Association members are not happy with.
