The Fiji Islands Council of Trade Unions said poverty in the country will be eradicated to some extent by introducing a national minimum wage rate.
Union General Secretary Attar Singh said they have been asking the government of the day to set up a minimum wage rate of $4.36 per hour and so far nothing has been done.
His comments follows NCBBF revelations in the draft charter that they want to launch a concerted and coordinated national program to reduce poverty, with the target to reduce poverty in line with the Millennium Development Goal with a view to going beyond the level of halving the incidence level by 2015.
