The opening of the Pacific Mini Games is still underway and is proving to be a very colourful affair of all the teams parading past the main dias with their colourful uniforms.

Team Fiji was led by their flag bearer, former Pacific Games 800 metres champion and now a Va'a representative Salome Tabuatalei.

Co-ordinator of the Pacific Mini Games opening ceremony Mauri Toa said it is going to be a bit unusual, in that each country will be given a "turou" or welcome, that is unique to the island that will welcome them into the BCI Stadium in Tereora.

Fiji has a contingent of 210 athletes and officials and were welcomed by the island of Rakahanga.

As each country reaches their rest location in the centre field, their welcome will be completed by an offering of "Ata Ma'anga” or food, as befitting the welcoming of guests into their home.

The opening ceremony is expected to last for three hours and the competition proper starts tomorrow.
