Despite previous attempts by stakeholders to get Fiji to become self sufficient in poultry production, Fiji still imports millions of dollars worth of chicken every year.
And now efforts are being undertaken between Crest Chicken and government to increase poultry farming and put an end to chicken imports.
However, Crest Chicken Operations Manager Ian Curtis said it will take time before their target of becoming self sufficient in poultry farming become reality.
Meanwhile, Curtis adds that they are able to meet about 80% of the local demand for chicken and their programmes involving villages in the poultry farming scheme is reaping its benefits.
