Millions of dollars will be saved with the new approach to increase the use of local vegetables in hotels and resorts.

Cabinet has approved the new approach and the aim is to begin formal trading between farmers and hotel operators where farmers will be trained by the agriculture extension staff to produce selected quality fruits and vegetables while middlemen will be used to fulfill the orders by purchasing from the selected farmers.

Fiji Hoteliers Association President, Dixon Seeto said with the new approach there will be less reliance on imported vegetables and less money will be spent on importing these products.
