Fiji loses an estimated $35 to $52 million a year just to fires.
That is the sentiment of newly appointed Minister for Local Government Colonel Samuela Saumatua in his first public appearance since taking office yesterday.
Colonel Saumatua said that with the 3 new fire trucks that the National Fire Authority received this figure may go down.
There are a total of 14 fire stations around the country and NFA Chairman, John Low reveals that of these stations, 64% of all fire appliances are over 20 years old.
The Fire Authority received these fire trucks today at 1/3 of their original price after the Chinese Government facilitated their purchase from Australia.
