Military’s Role After Elections A Concern
Councilor Rajeshwar Kumar told the listeners on a talkback show on our sister station, Radio Sargam that the Military will oversee the work of the next elected government.
Kumar said that an ordinary person will not be able to understand the way it is written in the charter as it is written in a legal way.
A caller claiming to be a member of the draft People's Charter Process said that the Charter did not contain any such thing as claimed by Kumar.
However, the General Secretary of the National Federation Party Pramod Rae joined in the conversation saying that Pillar One on Page 14 of the draft Charter talks about Redefining the role of the Fiji Military Forces to bring it closer to the people and Re-align the role of the RFMF to include Human Security.
Rae stressed that he himself does not understand the meaning of the lines but believes that it means that the RFMF will oversee the work of the government.
