The military should not be dominant but should serve the government of the day and the people of Fiji.
These are the sentiments of the Ousted Opposition Leader Mick Beddoes, in reference to Pillar 1 of the Draft People's Charter which includes the realignment of the role of the RFMF.
He said the intentions of the military had changed since the 2006 December 5th coup, from providing security to the nation to intimidating and threatening the citizens of Fiji.
Beddoes added the need for the military to take an oath to protect the constitution is a far-fetched idea, since the oath has already been taken, and broken.
Beddoes said the military has no role to play in the government administration unless it attains more professionalism and discipline.
