Facing the danger of many people in Niue leaving for greener pastures, one of the contestants said this is seriously putting a threat on their culture.
Miss Niue Carthy Malamaima said during the week long South Pacific Pageant she will be highlighting the fact that a lot of people in Niue are leaving for New Zealand and this is a major problem for them.
She adds her performance will be portraying all the elements of her culture.
The Miss South Pacific Pageant was officially opened in the last hour by Social Welfare Minister Dr Jiko Luveni.
Thirteen contestants are vying for the Miss South Pacific crown during the week-long Festival.
