Microfinance has been proven to be an effective means of reducing poverty and empowering the marginalized in our societies.
These are the words of Governor of the Reserve Bank Sada Reddy while opening the Microfinance Workshop on Medium Term Strategy for Financial Inclusion in Fiji at the Novotel Lami this morning.
Reddy stressed to the participants the need to see the poor or those considered un-bankable being provided access to savings and credit facilities that will ultimately help in reducing poverty.
Reddy said banks have a responsibility to develop these services.
He adds such services have been successful in many countries with in the region.
The two day workshop finishes tomorrow, whereby participants will put together a practical Action Plan to lift financial inclusion in Fiji to the next level.
