The Assistant General Secretary of the Methodist Church is calling on Methodists to stop abusing the consumption of Kava.
Reverend Tuikilakila Waqairatu said while they understand the traditional importance of Kava, what they have noted is the current abuse of the drink by most and it's a concern which they want to address.
Reverend Waqairatu said the church is worried because the abuse of kava will not only have an effect on the person's health but it has other negative effects on one's family and the society as a whole. He hoped the Ministry of Health will help them on their campaign to raise awareness on the negative effects of kava.
The Methodist Church is expected to discuss the issue at its Annual General Meeting today at the Centenary Church in Suva. Also on the agenda will be the appointment of a new President as well as a decision on whether a team from the National Council for Building a Better Fiji (NCBBF) will be allowed in to discuss the Draft People's Charter.
