Methodist schools around the country will hold special activities to commemorate John Wesley day instead of closing for the day as done in the past.

This is after a directive from the Education Ministry that there will be no closure of Methodist schools on John Wesley day, as it has been a practiced for Methodist schools observing May 24th as a Christian holiday to observe the day in remembrance of the founder of the Methodist Church, John Wesley.

Minister of Education Filipe Bole confirmed to Fijivillage that there will be no public holidays and said the only public holidays for Christians is Christmas and Easter celebrations.

Bole said the schools will instead hold special activities to celebrate the day.

When asked by Fijivillage whether this directive will also apply to other schools that commemorate certain religious holidays, Bole said he would not comment on the matter at this stage.
