The Methodist Church of Fiji has terminated the appointment of the Methodist minister who was associated in the Rosi kei Viti incident.

The church standing committee has also withdrawn his recognition as Minister Word Sacrament and Pastoral Care in the Methodist church in Fiji.

Reverend Ropoama Nabiri who was the Circuit Minister of the Nadrau Circuit in the Tavua Division has been found to have committed serious breaches of the Regulations for the Ministers of the Word, Sacrament and Pastoral Care.

This has been announced by the Methodist Church in Fiji President Doctor Tevita Nawadra Banivanua.

Banivanua says the specific charges and issues relating to Reverend Nabiri are according to the Ministerial Regulations, confidential.

He says this was relayed to Reverend Nabiri by the Divisional Superintendent of Tavua and the Senior Circuit Steward of the Nadrau Circuit by a delegation from the Methodist Church in Fiji Secretariat, led by the Deputy General Secretary Reverend Ili Vunisiwai.

Banivanua says according to the Methodist Church Minister’s  Regulations, if a former Minister whose recognition as a Minister has been withdrawn, desires to be reinstated as a Minister he or she may after 5 years apply for reinstatement through the Leaders Meeting, Quarterly Meeting, Annual Divisional Meeting and Conference and if accepted, he or she is reinstated as a Minister and can be given an appointment.

Banivanua says Nabiri’s status is now as a member under pastoral care, as such he will receive pastoral care from the minister of the circuit in which he resides.

He has cautioned the church’s preachers, teachers, lay pastors, deaconesses and ministers, to ensure that their theological reflections are revealed through a balanced consideration of Scripture, tradition, reason, and experience.

The Church President also cautions the congregation to be wary of any teaching, preaching or pronouncements that do not follow this basic process and speak out of context from the true meaning of the Bible.

There were some proclamations made by Nabiri that was made from the pulpit about divine revelations taking place.

The 14-year-old girl known as Rosi Kei Viti was also advised by the church minister to leave her family and school, and follow the group.

She then started making wild allegations against a number of people.

Fijivillage has also received confirmation that Nabiri was not involved in the recent case in Tavualailai where a Methodist Church monument was destroyed by another church group.

Skulls were buried under the monument and we are trying to get a confirmation from the Methodist Church on why this was done.

We are still awaiting answers on this.
