There is a decrease of 2,873 in the total membership of the Methodist Church of Fiji compared to last year.
In the latest statistics provided by the Church, it showed that this year the Methodist Church has a total number of 209,958 members compared to 212,831 last year.
General Secretary Reverend Tuikilakila Waqairatu said there are a number of factors which he believes contributed to this decrease in the numbers.
Waqairatu added this might not reflect the total numbers as the government statistics gives a total of 329,714 Methodist members in 2007.
Meanwhile, at 5pm this afternoon, the paramount chiefs representing the 3 confederacies will be at the Centenary Church to show their support to the Methodist Church of Fiji in opposing the draft People’s Charter.
Kubuna high chief Ratu Epenisa Cakobau, Roko Tui Dreketi Ro Teimumu Kepa and Tui Cakau Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu will be present at Centenary church.
Outgoing President Reverend Laisiasa Ratabacaca told the 700 plus members that the 3 high chiefs will be coming in their capacity as the Vanua heads of the 14 provinces in Fiji.
