Methodist Church unlikely to pay $435,000
Church Assistant General Secretary Rev Tuikilakila Waqairatu said although the issue will be discussed in the meeting later this week, the church's stance based on its principles is that they will not pay the debt to an unelected and unconstitutional government.
Interim Health Minister Dr. Jona Senilagakali revealed earlier that legal action may be initiated against the Church to recover the money. He stressed that they have plans in the pipe line to construct another hospital in Ba to avoid such incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, the President of the Methodist Church of Fiji, Reverend Laisiasa Ratabacaca has raised a major concern today that majority of the prisoners in jail are Methodists.
During his opening address at Naduri village, Macuata, Rev Ratabacaca challenged the church leaders and said that it is their responsibility to help fight the rising crime rate.
He also reminded the church ministers and delegates on the 2nd day of the Methodist Conference to live a life of discipline as this is what the Church was known for, during John Wesley's time, the founder of the Methodist Church.
The conference continues this afternoon.
