The Methodist Church will now be able to hold their annual general meeting with the lifting of the Public Emergency Regulation.
In an interview with Radio New Zealand, Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said when the PER is lifted, the new freedoms will apply to everyone.
He added people will also be allowed to meet in groups however, they will still need permits to meet in public places like any other country.
Sayed-Khaiyum said the media will be able to have balanced reports with the lifting of the censorship.
Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama announced in his New Year’s message that the Public Emergency Regulation will be lifted this Saturday to facilitate for the consultations on the new constitution which will commence from next month.
The PER has been in place in Fiji since 10th April 2009.
