The Methodist Church and members of the Association of Christian Churches of Fiji will not change their stance on the proposed setting up of a National Council for Building a Better Fiji.

In a statement, the Methodist Church and ACCF said that one of the grounds for the objection is that the Interim Government has no popular mandate and it should restrict itself purely by taking the nation back to civilian rule through a general election.

It states that the People's Charter proposes that part of the work of the National Council for Building a Better Fiji is to ensure political, constitutional and legislative reforms for transparency and accountability.

The ACCF and Methodist Church said these are the powers which only an elected parliament can have under our constitution and it is unconstitutional and illegal to confer these powers to an unelected body.

ACCF churches include the Methodist Church, Christian Mission Fellowship, Apostles Gospel Outreach, Gospel Churches, Christian Outreach Centre and Assemblies of God Church.
