Concerns are now being raised on the absence of a product recall system in the country which would result in quick action from local authorities on imported products that contain manufacturing errors.
The Consumer Council of Fiji Chief Executive officer raised this concern after receiving complaints that there were small pieces of mesh wire in an imported Canadian manufactured Brunswick Sardine brand tinned fish.
Premila Kumar said it is unfortunate that the complainant consumed the fish which now poses a danger to his life.
She added that often in a case like this, the traders think that the complainant has implanted these things themselves.
The matter has been referred to the Health Ministry.
