Majority of patients going for clinics at the Saint Giles Hospital in Suva believe that they are sick due to witchcraft.
While speaking at the press conference on Mental Health Day, Senior Medical Officer Dr. Amelia Andrews said this is the greatest challenge they face to treat the patients.
According to Dr. Andrews she is with Saint Giles hospital since 2007 and they do not stop the patients from visiting witch-doctors but encourage them to take medication as well.
There are currently 33 males and a similar number of females admitted at the Saint Giles Hospital in Suva.
To raise awareness, Fiji Mental Day celebrations will be held for the first time at Ratu Sukuna Park this Saturday.
