Four men charged with defilement and one charged with attempted rape of a 13 year old girl appeared in the Labasa court yesterday.

It is alleged the five, whose ages range between 43 to 68, defiled the girl between 2006 to 2008 and the matter was reported to the Police last October.

It is also alleged that the victim was bribed with money and sweets by the accused.

No plea was taken as the five opted to engage Legal Aid Counsel and were granted bail on the sum of $800 each and have been ordered not to interfere with the witnesses report to the Labasa Police Station every Friday on fortnightly, not to reoffend during the time of bail and to reside at their village and not to change their address and if they are to change their address, they are to inform this to Saqani Police.

The case has been adjourned till the 12th March and the victim has been put in the custody of Social Welfare.
