Lautoka High Court Judge Justice Paul Madigan has sentenced two men charged with theft and burglary to nine months imprisonment.

Serupepeli Tuivawa and Tomasi Caurani pleaded guilty to the charges and the court heard that on 7th March this year the two stole 15 bags of fertilizer worth 450 dollars and sold it to a Chinese farmer for 300 dollars.

In mitigation Tuivawa told the court that he is 36 years old, married with four children and earns a small income from farming and selling vegetables while Caurani informed the court that he is 30 years old supports his elderly mother and was remorseful.

Judge Madigan said that while the items were recovered and returned to the owner, the bags were stolen for the purpose of financial gain and sentenced both men to nine months imprisonment.
