Members Make Stance Clear
The Public Employees Union, Fijian Teachers Association and Viti National Union of Taukei Workers today met with the Committee and decided they are not bound to comply with the interim government's decision.
Union Representative Taniela Tabu said the Unions were taken by surprise this morning that the pay will not be backdated.
Tabu said the interim government is not able to manage the funds and now there is a need to change the government.
The Trade Dispute Committee Chairman Vimlesh Maharaj confirmed receiving submissions from both the parties and said a decision will be made by next week.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Public Service Association has called on the interim government to abide by the agreement on restoration of 4% pay.
General Secretary Rajeshwar Singh said they will not back off as their agreement signed by the Confederation of Public Sector Unions clearly states that the 4% pay cut will be backdated.
It has been confirmed that cabinet agreed yesterday to restore 2 percent on the 9th of July for Government Wage Earners and 10th July for salaried officers.
Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama who made the submission to cabinet said the remaining 2 percent will be restored on 10th December for Government Wage Earners and 11th December for salaried officers.
