Speed Gifted's Melbourne Cup campaign is over after he pulled up sore in beating just one runner home in the Cox Plate last Saturday.

Trainer, Lee Freedman will have a chiropractor in to treat the imported stayer, who felt the hard ground at Moonee Valley. Speed Gifted was one of the many horses to jar up on the track that as rated dead (4) in the morning, but was rated (3) in the afternoon, and was firmer by when the race was run.

The horse was showing signs of back soreness post-race.

Jockey Dwayne Dunn commented after the race that it was as if Speed Gifted was trotting on hot bricks going to the start.

The Melbourne Cup race will be held next Tuesday.
