After seven cancelled fights, two inactive years and one outrageous home town decision, Kali Meehan has finally been granted another shot at becoming the heavyweight champion of the world.

Meehan's long awaited fight with Ruslan Chagaev will go ahead after the Uzbek boxer's management team, Universum, sent him a contract on Friday night.

The fight is likely to be staged in Germany.

Should Meehan prevail, the 39 year old will take on the winner of the David Haye John Ruiz bout for the WBA heavyweight title.

The WBA has called for purse bids to take place on a series of fights including Meehan's in Panama today but the latest development ensures that he will have an opportunity to join fellow Australian Danny Green as a world champion.
