A medical team remains on standby to offer assistance to the tsunami victims in Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga.

Permanent secretary Foreign Affairs Sikeli Mataitoga said he has spoken to the Foreign Secretary of Samoa relaying Fiji's offer for assistance.

Mataitoga added communication lines need to get back on track in Samoa and once authorities have a more coordinated approach then a reply on help needed would be forthcoming.

The permanent secretary said the Foreign Affairs Minister will be briefing cabinet more on the Samoa tsunami situation after which more details will be learned.
