The Fiji Media Council has hit out at comments made by the President of the Fiji Labour Party, Jokapeci Koroi, that there is a need for the media to be regulated as a result of tainted and biased news reporting.

Koroi had also stated in her speech at the Fiji Labour Party's Annual Convention yesterday, that the media could not be self regulatory and that what was needed was legislation to deal with standards of media reporting as well as media complaints.

Media Council Chairman, Daryl Tarte said this is a sad day for Fiji and adds that this call means freedoms will be restricted.
