The Interim Health Minister said brain drain is a global phenomenon that Fiji cannot escape however measures are being taken to try and retain staff in the Health Ministry.
Dr Jiko Luveni said the training of their personnel continues to try and fill the vacancies that are in the Health Ministry left by those who have left Fiji for greener pastures.
The Health Ministry received $158.3 million for 2009.
A total of $3.3 million for upgrades and maintenance of urban hospitals. $1.3 million for maintenance of Health centers and nursing stations. A total of $550,000 will be spend on Equipment for health centers and Nursing stations.
$500,000 has been set aside for HIV/AIDS prevention and control programme. $9.5 million allocated for drugs, $2.9 million for consumables.
