Hooker Keven Mealamu will not start for the Blues until late April.

Coach Sir John Kirwan said they will stick to their plan for his return from his lengthy layoff.

It is likely he will once again come off the bench for their match against the Hurricanes and then start against the Reds after their bye round.

Kirwan said they want to use him, but it is important he does not pick up a knock in the process.

Meanwhile, Rene Ranger also appears under consideration to move to the wing in place of the suspended George Moala.

The Blues will take on the Hurricanes at 7.35pm Saturday.
