McNeil Healthcare Consumer in the USA is confident that all stock of it recalled products will be removed from the shelves of retail outlets in Fiji by this Friday.

McNeil Healthcare Consumer has initiated a voluntary recall of certain Children’s Tylenol Liquid and Motrin Liquid products.

According to the voluntary recall announcement made, the only product that is sold in Fiji that has to be removed from the shelves is the Children’s Tylenol Suspension Bubble Gum Flavour.

A spokesperson for McNeil Healthcare Consumers Nick Campbell confirmed to Fijivillage news that the voluntary recall was initiated in Fiji yesterday and by Wednesday majority of the recall will be completed and they estimate that by Friday all affected stock will be recalled from outlying island stores and retail outlets.

McNeil Consumer Healthcare said it is initiating this voluntary recall because some of these products may not meet required quality standards. It said this recall is not being undertaken on the basis of adverse medical events.

However, the company said as a precautionary measure, parents and caregivers should not administer these products to their children. It said some of the products included in the recall may contain a higher concentration of active ingredient than is specified; others may contain inactive ingredients that may not meet internal testing requirements and others may contain tiny particles.

McNeil said while the potential for serious medical events is remote, the company advises consumers who have purchased these recalled products to discontinue use.

The US company is conducting a comprehensive quality assessment across its manufacturing operations and has identified corrective actions that will be implemented before new manufacturing is initiated at the plant where the recalled products were made.

Fiji’s Health Ministry is aware of the voluntary recall.

Ministry spokesperson, Iliesa Tora said the Ministry will ensure that the Children’s Tylenol Suspension Bubble Gum Flavour is no longer sold in Fiji.
