Crusaders regular captain Richie McCaw has confirmed that he is aiming to return to Super Rugby for the play offs which start next month.

The 32 year old has been on a New Zealand Rugby Union-approved sabbatical for six months in order to prolong his international career through until the All Blacks’ World Cup defence in 2015.

Number eight Kieran Read has taken over the captaincy of the All Blacks for the three-match series against France, the second game of which is this Saturday.

McCaw said that he will make his return to rugby through club rugby and his Christchurch side and then into Super Rugby.

The Super Rugby playoffs start on July the 19th.

Meanwhile, the Crusaders will face the Highlanders on June 29.
