All Blacks captain, Richie McCaw's recovery from foot surgery may take longer than expected.

When McCaw revealed last month he required an operation to have a screw inserted into a broken bone in his foot it was hoped he would return to playing field by April 9th.

There is a chance McCaw's first outing of the year could be delayed until the ninth round of Super 15 fixture against the Chiefs on April 15th.

Although McCaw is now out walking without showing discomfort, Crusaders coach, Todd Blackadder may not use him unless he is confident enough to take on the field.

Crusaders play Highlanders at 4.30pm this Saturday.
