The Suva Town Clerk has stressed that the Mayor of Suva has the privilege to utilize the mayoral vehicle personally.
Ilitomasi Verenakadavu's comments came after questions were raised why Ratu Peni Volavola was allowed to take the mayoral vehicle to Naduri, Macuata, to personally use during the Methodist Church conference last week.
He added that according to the policies of the council, the Mayor to some extent has the right to make use of the vehicle for personal purposes.
Meanwhile, Volavola had earlier said that he had sought permission from the Council before taking the vehicle and he paid for all expenses from his own pocket.
