Mavana Village Doesn’t Support Charter
The "Turaga ni Koro " of Mavana, Josateki Valoloma said the NCBBF team were welcomed to the village when they presented their "Sevusevu" to them to present the draft charter but the villagers did not change their stance as they do not support the charter.
Vakaloloma maintained the village of Mavana is firm on the early decision of the Bose Vanua and the Bose Vakoro to reject the charter and nothing has changed since that decision was made.
Meanwhile the National Council For Building A Better Fiji Secretariat staff, Lote Raboila, currently in the Lau Group has confirmed that majority of the people in Vanaubalavu support the People's Charter. In a statement to Fijivillage News, Raboila said majority of those who attended the meetings voiced their rejection of the Charter due to the "Bose Vakoro" decision to reject the Charter.
However, when they collected the response forms after the consultation meetings, a good number have given their support on paper, which was very encouraging for the team. Raboila adds that no village has so far rejected or turned away the Charter team despite village meetings' decisions to oppose the Charter process. The team was accompanied by the Roko Tui Lau, assistant Rokos and the Provincial Administrator.
Ousted Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase who hails from Mavana said he is now very concerned on how the response forms on the Draft Charter is being filled.
