The maternity unit at the country's biggest hospital is barely coping with the nurses' strike.
Fiji Medical Association spokesperson, Dr James Fong said they are trying their best but a lot has to be done.
1st and 2nd year student nurses are helping out at the CWM Maternity Unit under the guidance of some senior nurses who opted not to go on strike.
Fong adds that doctors are also working extra hours as a result of the nationwide nurses strike, but said talks are underway with health ministry officials for these doctors to be compensated.
