USA and the Cook Islands have both scored massive upset victories on day one of the Wellington 7’s.

The Wellington crowd first cheered the Eagles to a fine 17-7 win against Argentina in the day's first match before the Cooks pulled off an even more unlikely victory by 21-17 over England.

Both sides were locked 7 all at half time but the Eagles scored two more tries at the second half.

Argentina will now need to beat Tonga and Scotland to qualify for the quarter finals.

In the second pool game Scotland thumped Tonga 26 points to nil.

South Africa won their game against Australia 24-14 and Kenya proved too good for France after they thrashed them by 19 points to nil.

Hosts New Zealand proved too good against Canada after they beat them by 43-0 and defending champions Samoa thrashed Papua New Guinea by 22-0.
