Rugby League Benji Marshall has sought an early release after rejecting an upgraded $1.5 million offer from West Tigers.

The Tigers issued a statement confirming the New Zealand international was seeking a release from the final two years of his contract.

It is also understood that Marshall is eyeing a switch to Super Rugby to play for either the Auckland Blues or NSW Waratahs.

The West Tigers player is also looking at a new challenge with the Rugby World Cup in England in 2015 on the horizon, combined with revisiting a dream of playing for the All Blacks.
