Former New Zealand Rugby League playmaker Benji Marshall is ready to lead the Blues from the number 10 jersey in this year's Super Rugby season.

The 28 year old former Kiwis captain has been with the Blues since late last year for pre-season conditioning and it's only been over the past three weeks that he's had a rugby ball in his hands.

Blues coach Sir John Kirwan believes Benji Marshall possesses the qualities to be the club's first choice five eighth.

The Blues kicks off their Super Rugby campaign against the Highlanders on the 22nd of next month
