Middle Men at the Suva Market have said prices of the raw materials from the farmer or fishermen have increased.
When Fijivillage News visited the market today, they said the wholesale prices on which they buy their goods have increased and so as a result their prices have to increase as well.
Some say although their selling prices remain the same, they have to make the bundles or heaps smaller and sell alot more in order to make a profit.
Other prices of food items like wheat products, fresh and preserved meat, fruit, tea, dairy products and vegetables were seen to increase by 3.6%.
The Interim Prime Minister earlier said the Interim Government is doing all it can to ensure the rise in food prices are contained and that ordinary members of the public are protected.
