The battle is living up to its hype as expected between Suva Grammar School and Marist Brothers at the Suva Zone 2 meet currently underway at the TFL National Stadium.
Varasiko Mualiku won the first gold medal for Suva Grammar School after a strong finish in the Junior Boys 1500 meters.
Varasiko said he hopes to win another gold later this afternoon.
Earlier this morning, Zubair Dean claimed the first gold medal in the Open Boys 3,000 meters for Marist Brothers High School.
Dean won gold for Suva Muslim College in the 1,500 and 800 meters last year.
Meanwhile, Waidina Secondary School made a clean sweep in the Open Girls division by winning gold, silver and bronze respectively.
A total of 106 gold medals will be up for grabs in today’s zone meet.
No results have come in yet for the Ba, Lautoka, Macuata 2, Kadavu, Nadroga and Bua zones which are also taking place today and tomorrow.
