A major tussle is expected in the boys division in the 2013 Coca-Cola Games as defending champion, Marist Brothers High School and Xavier College are currently tied in first place with 1 gold and 2 silver.
Marist Brothers High School's gold came from Mustafa Fall in the Senior Boys Shot Put.
Fall also set a new record with a throw of 15.80 metres.
He is happy that his hard work has finally paid off.
Looking at the Fijivillage medal tally:
Marist Brothers High School and Xavier College are currently tied in first place with 1 gold and 2 silver.
They are followed by Levuka Public, Solevu Junior Secondary, Koro High, Shree Gurunanak Khalsa of Macuata and Niusawa Methodist High with 1 gold medal each.
In the girls division, Jasper Williams High School of Lautoka is currently leading the tally with 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.
Saint Josephs Secondary School is in second place with 1 gold and 1 silver.
Xavier College is in third place with 1 gold and 1 bronze.
Defending champions in the girls division, Adi Cakobau School is yet to win a medal.
The heats in the 200 metres saw some close finishes however the most significant one was Adi Cakobau School's sprint queen, Elenoa Sailosi and Saint Josephs Secondary School's Sisilia Seavula losing in their heat.
They were beaten by Sila Central's Timaima Qica.
However both Seavula and Sailosi have made it to the finals tomorrow.
The other tussle was between Aaron Powell and Jacob Waqanivalu in the Intermediate Boys 200 metres heat.
They were in the same heat and Powell won the close race.
Both have qualified for the final.
In the Senior Boys 200 metres, Beniamino Maravu of Saint Bedes College came in first in his heat as he looks good to win gold again in this event.
Sila Central's William Raselala and Francis Kirikirikula of Suva Grammar also look good as they won their respective heats.
Grammar's Kemueli Waqa is also in the finals.
It is a dream start for two athletes from the Northern division as they have also won gold and smashed records.
Petero Werekoro of Solevu Junior Secondary won gold in the Junior Boys 1,500 metres event and also set a new record.
He ran in a time of 4 minutes 26 seconds.
The old record was 4 minutes 27 seconds set by Apisai Tuidia of Bucalevu Secondary in 2002.
A major upset in the Senior Boys 1,500 metres event.
It has already started to happen as we predicted that the athletes from outside Suva will clinch the medals from the top schools.
Inia Sili of Shree Gurunanak Khalsa Secondary of Macuata took gold in the Senior Boys 1,500 metres.
Paula Buke of Xavier College from Ba took silver while Epeli Batisila of Natabua High took bronze.
Sili broke the record with a time of 4 minutes 07 seconds.
Sili said that everyone wants to win gold this year at the newly renovated ANZ Stadium and this gold and record is for the people of Savusavu.
The 18 year old from Naiqali village, Wailevu, Savusavu said he trained hard everyday even when it rained in Savusavu.
In the Intermediate Boys 1,500 metres event, gold went to Iliesa Ratete of Koro High, Farasiko Mualevu of Suva Grammar School had to settle for silver while Vinish Pillay of Ba Sanatan College took bronze.
Ratete said he worked hard to win the race and dedicates his win to all the students of Koro High, his parents and the coaching staff.
He said his mum and dad wanted to come and watch him at the ANZ Stadium however they did not have enough funds.
He hopes this will make them happy.
Jasper Williams High School's Mereseini Naidau took gold in the 1,500 metres open girls event.
This is Naidau's fourth gold medal in the 1,500 metres.
Naidau who hails from Nadarivatu is elated to win a gold for yet another year and she knows that this will assist Jasper in the overall medal tally.
Ana Maria of Vaturova Koroalau High School took silver while Maopa Tabualovoni of Solevu Junior Secondary took bronze.
Looking at the latest field event finals:
Kelera Sing of Saint Josephs Secondary won gold in the Intermediate Girls Triple Jump.
Silver went to Mateiwai Naselesele of Saint Johns College while bronze went to Maria Lewavuni of Xavier College.
Poasa Satoqi of Xavier College has taken gold in the Intermediate Boys High Jump.
Sireli Qarabula of Marist settled for silver while Ulaiasi Ratunivatulele took bronze.
Lomary Secondary's Luisa Vua has taken gold in the Intermediate Girls Discus.
Saint Josephs Secondary School's Maeavhanisi Erasito took silver while bronze went to Kiti Ciriyawa.
The 100 metres heats start at 5.25 this afternoon followed by the 400 metres finals at 6.25 tonight.
The 100 metres finals will kick off at around 7.49 tonight.
The 200 metres heats are currently underway.
