Marist, Grammar lead
Marist Brothers long distance runner, Zubair Dean took two gold medals as he won the 3,000 meters open grade and 1,500 meters senior boys events earlier today.
Dean said he is hoping that Marist wins the zone.
For Suva Grammar School, Neumi Komaitai won gold in the 1,500 meters in the junior boys division with the time of 5 minutes 24.45 seconds and Varasiko Mualevu took the inter boys 1,500 meters gold with the time of 5 minutes 11.74 seconds.
Komaitai said he feels proud to represent Grammar.
Waidina Secondary is leading the girls division with two gold, one silver and one bronze.
Meanwhile the 100 meters senior boys final is expected to be a thriller after the heats this morning.
In the heats, Jone Pio from Nabua Secondary School will be a threat to Francis Kirikirikula of Suva Grammar School after clocking the best time in the heats with 11.14 seconds while Kirikirikula clocked 11.17 seconds.
Aaron Powell of Gospel High School looks confident to challenge Coca Cola Games gold medalist Simon Lilicama of Marist Brothers after clocking the manual time in the heats of 11.64 seconds and Lilicama clocking 11.78 seconds.
Sisilia Sevula will carry the hopes of Saint Joseph Secondary as she is the only senior girl who has run under 13 seconds with the time of 12.70 seconds in the heats.
The 4x400 meters relay heats are currently underway.
