A new champion has been crowned this afternoon in the Suva Zone Two competition in the boys division, after Marist Brothers High School came out strongly and dethroned the defending champions Suva Grammar School.

And Marist Senior Boys sprinter, Banuve Tabakaucoro led the charge for the Red Fire camp and also broke a 21 year old record.

Marist led the medal tally from this morning.

The "Red Fire" squad looked impressive in both the field and track events.

Looking at the Fijivillage medal tally, in the Boys Division, Marist Brothers High School have a total of 21 Gold, 16 Silver and 13 bronze, followed by Suva Grammar School in second place with 11 Gold, 12 Silver and 4 Bronze while Rampur college from Navua are third with 5 Gold, 1 Silver and 5 Bronze.

In the Girls Division: the girls from Suva Grammar have successfully defended their title.

Suva Grammar has 16 Gold, 10 Silver and 7 Bronze, second is Lomary with 7 Gold, 8 Silver and 5 Bronze, while Rampur College is third with 7 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze.

Six records were broken today.

The first record came from Noela Taqai of Suva Graamar School, in the Senior Girls 1500m.

The second record was broken by Diama Marama, also of Suva Grammar School, in the Intermediate girls High Jump with a jump of 1.6m, the old record stood at 1.44m.

The third record was broken by Banuve Tabakaucoro in the 100m Senior Boys finals.

Tabakaucoro broke a 21-year old record set by Samu Loiti in 1989 with the old time of 10.7sec and the new record stands at 10.6sec.

Tabakaucoro also bagged another Gold Medal for his school in the 200 metres finals in the senior boys.

Speaking after the win he said he was happy as it was his first year in the senior category.
