Villagers, resort and hotel owners in the Mamanuca Group are working together to conserve Marine life.

This is evident as all these stakeholders have agreed to refrain from fishing within 100 metres from the mainland.

A group of journalists visited Malolo Island last week on an ANZ Sponsored inter cultural sponsored program between Malolo District School and Newport School from Sydney and witnessed the success of the initiative for themselves.

Fish like saqa, turtles and clams have been protected around the Malolo Island resort which attracts tourists from around the world. Mamanuca Environment Society Director, Betani Salusalu said the program is successful and hopes that the case study in the Mamanuca Group will be followed around Fiji.
